Mideastunes

Mideast Tunes is a project of Mideast Youth. The site provides a platform for emerging underground artists in the Middle East and North Africa, where music is a form of activism. A variety of the region’s alternative musicians, from hip hop and trance artists to metal and alt-rock groups, are represented on the site.

This was by far the most complicated WordPress theme I personally designed and developed. The design needed to appeal to a wide audience, whether alternative, punk or classical, and complement the accompanying iPhone app. The site’s development features tabbed browsing by genre or country, posts separated into band or news templates, a music player for each band, and a contact form which allows for file uploading.

The site has been featured on CNN and Planet Green.

Bluelinemedia Microsites

Bluelinemedia offers a variety of products and services to help their client establish memorable and easy-to-use online experiences. They came to me for a redesign that would create an attractive and usable identity for each of their sites, but still make it very clear the visitor is checking out a unique microsite. The resulting design had an immediate and measurable impact. The client had this to say:

Since we relaunched the recruitment site we’re getting more than twice the rate of conversion from visitors to enquiries, and a big part of that is your design. A couple of people have said to me how clear and easy the site is, and it’s a perfect fit for what we’re offering. Austin Pets Alive!

Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) is a pet rescue organization run almost exclusively by dedicated volunteers. Theye are implementing innovative and progresive programs in Austin after studying the best practices of other cities who are no-kill or are in the process of becoming no-kill.

The main reason for the redesign was to integrate the blog into the site, and it also keeps the homepage full of new content, showcasing pictures of animals saved from the local shelter. The site features several custom scripts and three robust Theme Options pages to allow multiple users keep content fresh. The top goals were to create an environment where users want to spend more time on the site and to improve Google Rank (the page rank immediately shot up to a 5 after launch).

Privatepoint

Privatepoint is a for-sale-by-owner private real estate website which provides private sellers with a means to send their property listing (headlines, descriptions, photos, plans, virtual tours, etc.) to as many private real estate sale websites across Australia and the globe.

The design of this site was a collaboration between the owner of Privatepoint and myself. I enjoy teaming up a project with the site’s owner: it’s a good way to get to know a client on a more personal level and produce a site with a more unique online presence.
